Fortnite Account Ban vs HWID Ban: Are They Actually Different?

Closed thread Closed by archive

Can someone clear up the difference between an account ban and an HWID ban?

I see people using both terms in Fortnite discussions like they're exactly the same thing.

From what I understand, an account restriction relates to the Epic account, while an HWID restriction involves hardware identifiers.

But how do you actually know which situation you're dealing with?

Would the in-game notification tell you, or is there somewhere else to check?

Trying to separate actual information from random comments saying "your whole PC is banned forever."

They're not the same thing.

A restriction on your Epic account and a restriction involving hardware identifiers are different concepts.

Check the actual sanction notification first. People jump straight to HWID ban when they don't even know what happened.

That's what I was thinking. The terminology gets thrown around too casually.

Epic has a sanctions and appeals page where you can review applicable account sanctions.

That's a much better starting point than trusting somebody's Discord explanation.

"Your motherboard is banned forever bro" is the kind of advice that appears after one Google search lmao.

Also, don't assume an HWID spoofer will reverse an Epic account sanction. A hardware utility is not an official account appeal.

Worth repeating that unauthorized third-party software can carry enforcement risks too.

Thanks. Checking the actual sanction information first makes much more sense.
